Gilbert & George

Over more than half a century Gilbert & George have created their art together. Being subject and object of their collages at the same time and identifying it as Living Sculpture, they reflect and response to existential topics like death, hope, life, fear, sex, money and religion.

Gilbert & George continue addressing major philosophical and ethical challenges individuals and societies are being confronted with today and show these in their ambiguous character. Although having created an impressive and provocative universe with their Œuvre already, their work is still of great importance and explosiveness.

Gilbert and George have enjoyed major solo shows at the Kunsthalle Zürich, Moderna Museet, Stockholm, Tate Modern, London, MOMA, NYC, the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, Guggenheim Museum, NYC and Schirn Kunsthalle, Frankfurt, among other institutions. They represented Great Britain at the Venice Biennale in 2005. In 1986, Gilbert and George won the prestigious Turner Prize.
